Ethereal designs for the colourful bride

by The classic white wedding dress may have competition – in the form of delicate pastels, vibrant reds and prints reminiscent of teacup china.

Famous brides such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor opted for a less conventional look, choosing stunning, colourful wedding gowns for their nuptial celebrations.

And now Oscar de la Renta, known for his signature cream gowns and porcelain suits, has surprised us all with a line of Tiffany-inspired blue gowns, with the designer's signature embroidery and pearl-lace detail.

Joining in this colour craze are New York's Douglas Hannant, and Spanish bridal designer Rosa Clará who have also moved away from tradition, towards more daring, multi-coloured gowns.

Dare to brighten up the aisle with these spectacular wedding dresses from the catwalks of 2013.
