Kylie Minogue and her fiancé Joshua Sasse would love to get married in Australia, but have said they will not do so until there is marriage equality. British actor Joshua confirmed this week that the couple want to tie the knot in Melbourne, but are fighting for same-sex marriage to be legalised first.

"There are chances of a Melbourne wedding," he told Network Seven. "[But] we will not get married until this law has passed in Australia."

Kylie Minogue and Joshua Sasse will not marry in Australia until same-sex marriage is legal

Both Kylie, 48, and Joshua, 28, are campaigning for marriage equality in her home country, with Joshua helping to launch the Say I Do Down Under campaign at the weekend. "When I found out gay marriage was illegal in Australia, I was astounded," he said.

"I simply cannot fathom on any level, whether it's moral or religious or anything, that I have the right to get married and to marry the person that I love, and that somebody else doesn't because of their sexual orientation."

Malcolm Turnbull, Australia's prime minister, last month introduced legislation to allow a public, non-binding vote on same-sex marriage early next year. It has been denounced by critics as a waste of public money as it would have no legal weight, and ultimately parliament will have the final decision.

The couple announced their engagement in February

Kylie has previously spoken about how "backward" Australia is when it comes to marriage equality, remarking to the Daily Telegraph that the "earth didn't cave in" in other countries where it is legal.

Of her fiancé, she added: "He's so adamant to fight for gay rights in Australia and it's coming from the most genuine place. He just can't fathom that same-sex marriage hasn't been legalised and of course I back him up on that."

Kylie and Joshua announced their engagement with a notice in the marriages section of the UK's Telegraph in February. "Mr J.S. von Sasse and Miss K.A. Minogue. The engagement is announced between Joshua, so of the late Dominic Sasse and of Mary Heale (nee Macauley), of Herefordshire and Kylie, eldest daughter of Ronald and Carol Minogue, of Melbourne, Australia," it read.
