Congratulations to Sonia Ibrahim and her fiancé Arron! The couple are engaged after Arron popped the question last week. The Coronation Street star has shared some candid snaps from the romantic proposal, showing Arron on bended knee inside the spectacular Manchester Town Hall. Sonia, who plays Mel Maguire on the soap, wrote: "I'M ENGAGED this is the moment my beautiful husband to be asked me to be his wife. I honestly couldn't ask for a more perfect man to be my soon to be husband."
The sweet proposal brought Sonia to tears, as she was pictured clutching her hands to her face and kissing her fiancé. The soap star also posted a close-up photo of her yellow diamond engagement ring. Sonia, who is involved in the harrowing teenage grooming storyline on Corrie, later told the Manchester Evening News: "I'm so happy to be engaged. He is my best friend as well as my partner and we're excited to spend the rest of our lives together! Although we'd discussed the possibility of it happening one day, I wasn't expecting it anytime soon so it was a huge surprise.
Sonia Ibrahim is engaged!
"Without going into too much detail, he took me to Manchester Town Hall pretending we were supposed to be trying a new restaurant in there. Upstairs is a beautiful space which they call 'The Bees' where we stood talking. He then surprised me by getting down on his knee with the ring in his hand. I burst into tears and of course said yes! It was the most special moment of my life and we couldn't be happier. We've been together for a long time and it feels like the right time to take our relationship to the next level."
The actress plays Mel Maguire in Corrie
Sonia's real-life romance is worlds apart from her Corrie storyline. The actress joined the show as Mel earlier this year, and her character helps creepy Nathan Curtis groom and manipulate 16-year-old Bethany Platt to their advantage. It emerges that Mel is trapped by Nathan and was once groomed by him herself.
