For three days of November the chicest city on the French Riviera hosts Le Salon du Chocolat de Cannes. During the festival, the sweetest of initiatives and talents of chocolatiers are celebrated through lectures, musical shows and, finally, a fashion show. And this year, the theatrical city of Cannes paid tribute to Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco, with a chocolate wedding gown inspired by her own bridal attire. The pièce de résistance paid tribute to one of the most iconic actresses and brides of the 20th century, recreating her fairytale wedding dress which was made from antique Valenciennes rose point lace, 25 yards of silk taffeta and 98 yards of tulle.

With a corset of cocoa, an edible embroidered veil and matching bouquet of gold-speckled flowers, the figure also featured a chocolate replica of a film roll as a reference to the acting career of the late princess.A story of a Hollywood star turned real-life princess, the marriage of Grace Kelly to Prince Rainier of Monaco is still considered one of the romantic and memorable of recent times – 30 years since the princess passed away. The original wedding dress was created by American designer Helen Rose who was behind many of the iconic costumes that the actress would wear in films during her life in Hollywood. Grace's wedding gown, which was made from Valenciennes rose point lace is considered one of the most beautiful history. And even now its cut of a nipped-in waist, buttoned collar and statement long sleeves in lace is a style that has recurred over the decades.

But it's not the first novelty creation dedicated to a royal wedding. During October this year, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took a drive down memory lane at a charity auction where they were surprised to see a cake dedicated to their own special day.The Aston Martin cake mobile featured replica iced versions of the royal couple and Prince William seemed delighted at reliving the magical moment in miniature.
