Rehab stint offers Farrah Fawcett's son a second chance

Friday May 1, 2009

Facing jail for drugs offences, Farrah Fawcett and actor Ryan O'Neal's son Redmond O'Neal has been given a chance to avoid serving time after entering an "intensive" rehabilitation programme.

The troubled 24-year-old was admitted onto the 12-month programme on Thursday. If he completes it successfully he could be taken off probation and have his previous convictions wiped from the record.

If he relapses, however, or gets booted off the course – which involves frequent testing, court appearances and counselling – he could face up to four years in prison.

Redmond has been in custody since April 5. He recently expressed regret for his actions, telling a judge his latest arrest was keeping him from his mother Farrah, who is battling cancer
