Following his sleeper hit Slumdog Millionaire's haul of Oscars, the filmmaker is celebrating another honour from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science.
The 52-year-old has been invited to become a member of the prestigious 6,000-strong body responsible for deciding the outcome of the Oscars race.
And he will, no doubt, mark the accolade with an outburst of generosity in his father's local pub as he did when he received the Academy Award for best director.
Other Britons among this year's 134 newcomers are Devil Wears Prada star Emily Blunt and Last King Of Scotland actor James McAvoy.
They also join Australian hunk Hugh Jackman, and Brokeback Mountain actresses Anne Hathaway and Michelle Williams.
