Netflix will premiere its 10-episode original series Marco Polo at 12:01am PT on December 12, 2014.
Starring Italian newcomer Lorenzo Richelmy as the title character Marco, the historical saga follows the explorer’s adventures in Kublai Khan’s court in 13th century China and promises to be filled with action and intrigue.
The highly-anticipated series features a global cast of characters such as Zhu Zhu, best known for her role in science fiction film Cloud Atlas, Twin Peaks' Joan Chen and Prometheus star Benedict Wong.
Creator John Fusco, who directed Young Guns and Hidalgo, and Harvey Weinstein will be producing the show, alongside Game of Thrones and True Blood producer and writer Dan Minahan, who will also direct two episodes.
Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg will be directing the season’s first two episodes and will serve as executive producers, before going on to work on Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the franchise's fifth film.
