The Duke of Edinburgh showed signs of his robust recovery at his first public appearance since his recent heart surgery.
The 90-year-old made the short walk into the church on the royals' Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
A 400-strong crowd who had gathered outside the church showed their support with a round of applause for the Duke.
He appeared in good spirits as he stopped to talk with some of the visitors outside before entering into the church for the traditional New Year's Day service.
The Queen's husband had previously spent four nights in hospital after receiving treatment for a blocked artery.
