William and Kate charm crowds at Canada Day concert

Saturday July 2, 2011

It's thought that a 500,000-strong crowd  turned up to catch of a glimpse of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Friday's Canada Day celebrations.

And the well-wishers continued to come out in droves as the charismatic couple attended a concert on the city's Parliament Hill later that evening.

William and Kate were guests of honour at the event which hosted acts from across the country.

The couple clearly enjoyed their evening, smiling and applauding throughout.

Along with 100,000 locals, they enjoyed the concert for half an hour before leaving to attend a private event.

Kate looked divine in a vibrant purple Issa jersey dress, which she teamed with black satin court shoes and a matching clutch bag.

She was still sporting the glittering maple leaf brooch lent her by the Queen for the tour.

Prince William looked dapper in a navy blue suit and a crisp white shirt.

Their stay in Ottawa is just the beginning of the nine-day North America tour in which they will visit several cities across the Commonwealth nation and its neighbour.
