Zsa Zsa Gabor's lower leg to be amputated

Monday January 3, 2011

Zsa Zsa Gabor has been rushed to hospital to have her lower leg amputated, her husband has confirmed.

According to Frederic Prince von Anhalt, the 93-year-old left home in an ambulance after a blood clot in her leg spread.

"They may have to take her leg from the knee down," he told People

He told TMZ that doctors advised Zsa Zsa to have the procedure before Christmas but she insisted on spending the festive period at home.

According to her spokesman John Blanchette: "[The clot] has increased in size, and doctors have wanted to operate for several days.

"She will lose the lower half of her leg below the knee," he added.

"It’s a dangerous operation, but the upside is that, if successful, she will remain her same old feisty self for a few more years."

Zsa Zsa has suffered from ailing health in recent months; in August she received her last rites but went on to make a recovery.
