A producer for Oscar-nominated film The Hurt Locker will not be allowed to attend the awards ceremony, it has been revealed.
Nicolas Chartier has been barred from the event after sending an e-mail to voters urging them to name his movie as best film.
Academy rules prohibit the mailing of members to promote or disparage a film.
Should the war drama win best picture, Nicolas will still receive his statuette at a later date.
The email, made public by the Los Angeles Times, was sent asking Oscar voters to rank The Hurt Locker at number one and Avatar at number ten among the list of nominated films.
Nicolas has apologised, citing "naivete, ignorance of the rules and plain stupidity as a first-time nominee".
