Ashton Kutcher will play "an internet billionaire with a broken heart" when he makes his debut on Two And A Half Men.
Ashton will fill the void left by hellraiser Charlie Sheen, who was sacked last season from his $1-million-per-episode role.
CBS boss Nina Tassler would not confirm or deny reports that the new season begins with the death and funeral of Charlie's character, Charlie Harper.
"The mystery is part of the marketing," she said, adding: "The show will be as irreverent as it has ever been".
Punk'd star Ashton recently bared all on a poster with his new co-stars, Jon Cryer and Angus Jones.
His character will be named Walden Schmidt.
Walden doesn't have any family connection to Jon and Angus' screen alter-egos.
They portrayed the brother and nephew of Charlie's character.
Men begins its ninth season in the US on September 19 with the first of a two-part kick-off that establishes Ashton's character.
