One Direction win battle over name clash

Tuesday September 4, 2012

Global sensations One Direction have won a legal battle to keep their name.

The band had been challenged by Californian pop group, also called One Direction, for $1 million in damages.

However, the Americans have agreed to change their name to Unchartered Shores.

The document declared both parties are pleased with the resolution.

Quintet Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson all auditioned individually for the X Factor in 2010, and were turned into a band by judge Simon Cowell.

The group have had a great deal of success across the Atlantic. Their debut album Up All Night is the first UK LP to debut at number one in the Billboard 200 album chart.
