Footballer John Terry has been stripped of his England captaincy following the recent allegations about his private life.
The announcement came after the Chelsea player met with England manager Fabio Capello at Wembley on Friday to discuss his future.
"As a captain with the team, John Terry has displayed extremely positive behaviour,” said Fabio. “However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad.”
Married father-of-two John, 29, is alleged to have had an affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the ex-partner of his former Chelsea team-mate Wayne Bridge.
"I fully respect Fabio Capello's decision," said the soccer star in a statement. "I will continue to give everything for England."
Vanessa, who has a three-year-old son with ex-boyfriend Wayne, has also reacted to the news.
"Vanessa [says] she finds it very sad that John Terry has been dropped as England captain," said her publicist Max Clifford in a statement.
She also does not plan to sell her story to the press, he added.
England's new captain has been named as Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand.
