Twilight and Slumdog Millionaire, two of the biggest films to hit screens at the end of last year, are all set to go head to head at this year's MTV Movie Awards.
Teen vampire film Twilight, based on the novels by Stephanie Meyer, leads the way with seven nominations including best movie and male breakthrough performance for lead Robert Pattinson.
It will face tough competition from this year's big Oscar-winner Slumdog Millionaire in four categories, including Best Kiss. The Danny Boyle-directed film, starring off-screen couple Dev Patel and Freida Pinto, received a total of six nods.
Other films vying for the best film gong include High School Musical 3 and The Dark Knight, while best female performance nominees include The Reader's Kate Winslet and Angelina Jolie for Wanted. The best male shortlist features Christian Bale, Iron Man's Robert Downey Jr and Shia LeBeouf for action thriller Eagle Eye.
The awards, which will be hosted by American comedian Andy Samberg, will take place in LA on May 31
