The Duchess of Cambridge apparently requested a visit to Prince Edward Island on her debut royal tour.
It was her choice because it's the setting for children’s classic Anne of Green Gables, one of her favourite books.
And on the fifth day of her North American tour Kate got the chance to meet a pretty redhead who had dressed up as the book’s protagonist, Anne.
The Duchess looked delighted to be reconnecting with her childhood.
Created by Lucy Maud Montgomery in 1908, the Anne of Green Gables novels became a bestselling series that sold more than 50 million copies.
It's the story of a couple who decide to adopt an orphaned boy to help on the farm, and are mistakenly sent a girl.
In the series, the feisty heroine continually longs to be prettier, referring to her red pigtails and freckles as a great disappointment.
