Mariah Carey has spoken of her sympathy for RnB star Rihanna because of her own experience with mental and physical abuse.
"I can't imagine what she went through," Mariah says of Rihanna, who was assaulted by singer boyfriend Chris Brown in February.
The 40-year-old star - pictured having undergone an amazing transformation for her new role as a dowdy welfare caseworker in the urban drama Precious - shed light on a similar experience.
"Emotionally, mentally, in other ways ... It's scary," she says.
"I think you get into a situation and you feel locked in. If your situation is similar to one I've been in... it was difficult because there was a connection that was not only a marriage but a business thing, where the person was in control of my life."
On a happier note in the television interview with Larry King, Mariah spoke of her plans to have a baby.
"It would be the happiest thing in my life, but right now with this movie coming out, with the next few singles from the album and those things that I'm doing, I need to focus on that, because I cannot do the having-a-child thing halfway."
