'Downton Abbey' and 'EastEnders' in Christmas clash

Wednesday December 5, 2012

EastEnders and Downton Abbey are set to go head-to-head in a Christmas Day ratings battle.

The scheduling clash, which will force viewers to choose between the Abbey and Albert Square, will put competing channels BBC and ITV head to head.

Other competitors include The Royle Family's Christmas special, as well as Coronation Street battling it out in a different slot against BBC favourite Call The Midwife, starring Miranda Hart.

EastEnders came out triumphant in last year's ratings as it raked in 9.9 million viewers in comparison to the period drama's 8.1 million viewers.
