'X Factor' singer Gamu faces deportation

Wednesday October 6, 2010

Following the shock of being evicted from X Factor comes another blow for 18-year-old Gamu as she has been told she must leave the UK.

She has to return to her native Zimbabwe, says the UK Border Agency.

She was allowed to stay in the country as a dependant while her mother, Nokuthula Ngazana, studied at university.

But her visa has now expired and the family's application to remain has been rejected as they did not meet Home Office criteria.

The family has now been told to leave the UK voluntarily or face deportation

Despite her uncertain future, Gamu said on Tuesday night: "Thank you so much to everyone. I'm overwhelmed by the support. The whole [X Factor] experience has been amazing and I am doing fine."

Show bosses have denied suggestions that visa issues influenced the decision to leave her out of the programme's final stages..

A spokeswoman said: "Gamu's visa being processed was not the reason that she didn't make the final 12."
