He's well know in celebrity circles for his high-profile relationship with Cheeky Girl Gabriella, but Lembit Opik was in full politican mode as the election results were announced in the small hours of Friday.
Mr Opik has been forced out by Glyn Davies - the Tory challenger - who overturned a 7,173 majority in the Montgomeryshire constituency.
The Welsh Lib Dem candidate, whose parents came from Estonia, has held the seat since 1997.
"I’m really quite disappointed I lost," he said. "I didn’t expect the result and neither did my team.
"It’s a sad time for me. On the other side, if you stand for politics you have to be willing to contemplate the possibility of defeat."
Four years before breaking up with Gabriella he went through a very public split with Welsh weather presenter Sian Lloyd, to whom he had also become engaged.
