Comedy world mourns Clive Dunn

Wednesday November 7, 2012

Dad's Army funnyman Clive Dunn has passed away after a short illness, aged 92.

Known as Lance Corporal "Don't Panic" Jones, the star's portrayal of the nervous butcher became one of the most loved characters of the sitcom, inducing side-splitting laughs with the lines "permission to speak, Captain Mainwaring", and "they don't like it up 'em".

As well as starring in children's comedy Grandad and My Old Man, the star went on to record the popular single Grandad, which sold 90,000 copies in one day.

Talented in the field of arts, Clive starred in an English National Opera production of Die Fledermaus. He was also an accomplished artist, with many of his works appearing in a biography.
