The Duchess of Cornwall has said publicly for the first time that she may one day take the title of Queen.
During an official visit an eight-year-old pupil asked her: “Are you going to be Queen one day?”
Looking shocked by the question, Camilla replied: “You never know”.
Her remark follows an interview Prince Charles gave in November.
Speaking to American TV channel NBC, the Prince was asked if Camilla would one day become Queen.
He said: “We’ll see, won’t we? That could be.”
When the Duchess married Charles in 2005, it was proposed that she be styled Princess Consort on his accession to the throne.
It was thought this would avoid upsetting those still finding it hard to accept the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.
This week Clarence House said there had been no change in the "official position".
And it was still planned that Camilla would become Princess Consort.
