Buckingham Palace lit up ahead of Invictus Games

Wednesday September 10, 2014

The official Invictus Games logo was projected onto an illuminated Buckingham Palace as Prince Harry threw a party in celebration of the inaugral event on the eve of its opening ceremony.

The competition, inspired by the US Warrior Games, is considered to be the Prince's brainchild and features more than 400 competitors from 13 countries taking part over the course of four days.

A video message from US President Barack Obama was played in which he praised and wished good luck to the wounded servicemen and women who will represent their nations in the Paralympics-style games.

Prince Harry also welcomed the athletes and thanked them for embracing the concept "so enthusiastically".

The opening ceremony, which will take place on Wednesday evening at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, will feature a display from the Red Arrows and a performance of the Games' anthem by Coldplay singer Chris Martin.
