She’s best known for swaying between her bubblegum character, Hannah Montana, and the glossy teenage rebel who loves challenging perceptions of her.
But a recent visit to troubled Haiti has drawn out a softer, more mature side of Miley Cyrus.
The 18-year-old was on a charity mission with Starkey Hearing Foundation – an organisation dedicated to distributing and fitting hearing aids to those in need.
It’s the second time the teen star has visited the earthquake-hit country, returning after her first trip back in February.
Speaking of the experience, she said: "This second mission to Haiti was just as impactful to me as the first one.
"I grew up around music and couldn't imagine what it would be like for my siblings and me, if we couldn't hear the magic of music."
The singer seemed relaxed and natural as she interacted with locals.
At one point, she lovingly cradled a child on her shoulder.
Miley is the latest in a long line of celebrities using their profile to help rebuild Haiti after it was devastated by an earthquake in January 2010.
