Film director Michael Winner has spoken of his joy at setting a wedding date after seven decades as a bachelor.
Michael – who directed stars such as Marlon Brando and Charles Bronson – and long-term girlfriend Geraldine Lynton-Edwards will tie the knot at Chelsea Register Office on Monday September 19.
The groom-to-be, 75, has been engaged to Geraldine for four years.
Asked why he had decided to marry relatively late in life, he said: "It seemed to me to be a lovely thing to do.
"I turn 76 in October and I have never been anywhere near marriage before.
"It took a long time for a bit of common sense to enter my befuddled brain.
"Geraldine is great fun and she has been with me through difficult times, and now she's making a respectable man of me."
The witnesses at the Register Office will be actor Michael Caine and his wife Shakira.
They will also host a luncheon party for the happy couple at their home the day before the nuptials.
About 16 friends, including composer Lord Lloyd-Webber, photographer Terry O'Neill and singer Chris Rea, are expected to join Michael and Geraldine at the Caines' home for Sunday lunch.
The newlyweds will honeymoon in Portofino, Italy.
