The Queen and Prince Philip will meet the Walking With The Wounded teams trekking to the South Pole with their grandson Prince Harry on Wednesday.
The monarch, her husband and their fourth grandchild will meet the three teams of wounded servicemen and women from the United Kingdom, The United States and the Commonwealth ahead of the expedition which departs in December.
Physically and mentally injured service personnel will be joined by Harry, The Wire actor Dominic West and True Blood star Alexander Skarsgård for the gruelling Antarctic challenge.
The teams depart on 1 December and face weeks of harsh conditions including blizzards, biting winds of up to 50mph and temperatures of -45C.
Not only will the expedition illustrate the extraordinary determination and courage of the injured servicemen and women, it will also raise awareness and vital funds for Walking With The Wounded.
Apache helicopter co-pilot Harry has been a dedicated supporter of the cause since its inception and has served as a Patron for both the North Pole and Everest expeditions in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
