Cheryl Cole has admitted she's "no Mariah Carey".
But the singer, who has been accused of miming, said she feels content with her talent.
"I am very aware of my ability. I know I'm no Mariah Carey but I think the emotion in the song is what matters.
"It's making people feel what you're singing about," she told the Sun newspaper.
Cheryl, who had mixed reactions to her duet with Gary Barlow at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert, said she believes her new album A Million Lights is her best effort yet.
"I've grown as a person and an artist, you can hear that in my music. I feel brand new," she said.
"I'm bullet proof. I feel as hard as the times I've had but I think everything happens for a reason, even if you can't always say what that reason is."
The Geordie lass has just released details of a ten-day tour of UK and Ireland, starting in October.
She will start her Million Lights Tour, named after her new album, on October 3 at Belfast's Odyssey Arena.
The 28-year-old will finish up in her home city of Newcastle at the Metro Radio Arena on October 17.
