Duffy has been awarded an honorary degree from Bangor University in her native Wales.
The Nefyn-born pop artist received the degree in Prichard Jones Hall for her services to music.
The Mercy singer smiled in the traditional cap and gown as she collected the accolade.
At the University Quad photocall she said: "I’m delighted to be back in North Wales.
"It’s a great honour to be awarded an honorary fellowship."
Duffy - who admitted that she was "on the borderline of a nervous breakdown" when her album Rockferry topped the UK charts in 2008 - was said to have looked nervous throughout the day.
She did, however, smile and wave as she walked onto the stage to warm applause from the audience.
Some fans were disappointed that the singer did not take time to mingle with the students also receiving degrees.
Also receiving honorary degrees were TV actor Julian Lewis Jones and broadcaster Rhys Jones.
