J.K Rowling is to make her screen-writing debut adapting her book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
While the novelist says the story is neither a “sequel or prequel” to the Harry Potter series, she did say that the book has been inspired by Harry’s Hogwarts textbook and that devoted Harry Potter fans will be familiar with some of the magical creatures and characters.
The film follows the book’s author Newt Scamander, the grandfather of Rolf who marries Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter series. Newt’s adventure will start in New York and will be set 70 years before Harry’s gets underway.
Forty-eight year old Joanne announced the project on Thursday via Facebook saying: “I always said that I would only revisit the wizarding world if I had an idea that I was really excited about and this is it.”
Warner Bros have secured the rights to the film and are excited to continue their successful partnership with the writer.
