The countdown to the second installment of Lionsgate’s global box office hit Hunger Games has begun and the entertainment company has confirmed that London will host Catching Fire’s world premiere on 11 November.
The film, due out for worldwide release on 22 November, is directed by Francis Lawrence and is based upon the best-selling novel Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins.
The film will follow Katniss Everdeen, played by academy-award-winning Jennifer Lawrence, who has returned home from the 74th Annual Hunger Games with fellow tribute (a resident of the 12 districts who are forced to participate in the Games) Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). As winners, they must embark on a “Victor’s Tour” amid rumours of a rebellion in motion against the Capital (the government). The protagonists find themselves under the watchful eye of President Snow as the 12 districts prepare themselves for the 75th Annual Hunger Games, which will change the future of Panem forever.
The first Hunger Games was the 13th highest-grossing North American release of all time, almost earning $700 million (£450 million) at the worldwide box office.
The film will see the return of Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harelson, Sam Claflin, Lenny Kravitz and Stanley Tucci.
