Cornell S John ready for 'EastEnders' role

Tuesday April 16, 2013

EastEnders will soon welcome Cornell S John as Dexter Hartman's father.

Cornell, who has appeared in Kidulthood, Adulthood and Inside Men, has been cast in the BBC soap as Dexter's long-lost father and Ava's ex-husband Sam Hartman, described as a "master manipulator".

"It's a great honour and pleasure to be joining the EastEnders family.

I look forward to working with the cast and to Sam's adventures on the Square," the actor said.

His arrival in Walford in May will "create a stir" in Albert Square, but it isn't known what sort of welcome Sam - who's also "charismatic and charming" - will get from his estranged family.

The soap's executive producer Lorraine Newman said: "We are delighted to have Cornell join the cast of EastEnders playing Sam. Cornell's powerful presence and natural gravitas will ensure he's a strong presence on screen.”
