Iconic radio personality Casey Kasem has passed away after fighting Parkinson’s disease since 2007.
Surrounded by friends and family early morning on Father’s Day, the 82-year-old died following a decision made by his children to end his infusions of medicine, food and water on Wednesday.
According to the family lawyer, Casey’s doctor concluded that the artificial nutrition would only prolong what he describes as an “already terribly uncomfortable dying process”.
His daughter Kerri Kasem tweeted the heartbreaking news signed from his three children: “Early this Father’s Day morning, our dad Casey Kasem passed away surrounded by family and friends. Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken.
“Thank you for all your love, support and prayers. The world will miss Casey Kasem, an incredible talent and humanitarian; we will miss our Dad. With love, Kerri, Mike and Julie.”
Casey spent more than 40 years as a radio presenter as well as voicing Scooby-Doo's Shaggy, and he was described by all who knew him as a happy person "with a sparkle in his eye".
