A man charged with stalking Paris Hilton must stand trial after a judge called his actions toward her "scary".
Superior Court Judge Jessica Silvers rejected arguments by suspect James Rainford's lawyer in a Los Angeles court about whether his client posed a direct threat to the heiress and reality TV star.
James, 36, has been arrested twice outside the socialite's homes.
One incident was on July 4, when paparazzi alerted authorities that he was outside Paris' beach house.
The accused has previously been convicted of assault against the heiress' former boyfriend Cy Waits, who was hit outside a courthouse earlier this year.
Paris did not appear in court.
Four law enforcement officers testified about their interactions with James after he was found outside the homes.
He is currently in custody and will return to court on August 29 for arraignment.
