The world might have been left shocked by Charlie Sheen's recent behaviour.
But his ex-wife Denise Richards was not.
Appearing on The View this week, the actress said of her former husband's ongoing troubles: "This is something I have dealt with for years.
"This is not a new situation."
But she is acutely aware of the impact Charlie's behaviour has on their two daughters, Sam, six, and Lola, five.
"There are times where his life is more colourful that others, more public than others, and as the kids get older it’s a difficult thing," she said.
"I'm learning as I go too. I have never had to deal with this and this was a subject I hoped to talk with my children about as they got older. But it's hard."
Denise, who revealed she is using children's books to teach the girls about addiction, added: "I mean, you know this is Charlie's lifestyle.
"He makes no bones about it. And it is what it is."
