Presenter Ben Shephard has quit his post at GMTV, just days before he and several of his colleagues were due to learn their fate amid an ITV cost-cutting exercise.
The 35-year-old presenter, who has been a fixture on the GMTV sofa for five years, has resigned and told chiefs he will stay on at the show until the end of the summer.
The father-of-two had been named as one of the hosts set to face the axe after ITV bosses named Adrian Chiles as the new GMTV anchor.
"Obviously, he felt it was untenable to stay and wait to see what was happening with his job. It was clear that he felt that he had to jump before he was pushed," says co-host Andrew Castle, who is also awaiting further news of his position.
