With just nine days to go before the royal wedding, the Queen hosted a lunch for Kate Middleton's parents to get better acquainted.
The monarch and Prince Philip shared a meal with Michael and Carole – in what is thought to have been their first meeting – at Windsor Castle on Wednesday.
And a senior royal source has claimed that, despite the engagement lasting only an hour and a half, the guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
"It was a lovely lunch, very warm with lots of laughter and I think helped put everyone at ease," they said.
Also present were a small number of members of the royal household, thought to be private secretaries.
