U2 frontman Bono has had an emergency operation on his spine after suffering an injury while preparing for the next leg of the band's tour.
The singer was operated on in a Munich hospital on Friday, where he is expected to stay for the next few days before returning home to Ireland to recover.
The 50-year-old had been getting ready for the next stage of U2's world tour in North America.
The first date, in Salt Lake City on June 3, has already been postponed.
It is not yet known how many other of the band's upcoming concerts – which include an appearance at the Glastonbury festival on June 25 – will be affected.
