Anne Widdecombe eager to strut her stuff on Strictly

Friday August 21, 2009

Former Home Office minister Anne Widdecombe says John Sergeant has given her the confidence to appear on BBC dance contest, Strictly Come Dancing.

Anne, who is standing down as an MP for Maidstone and The Weald at the next general election, indicated she would accept a role on the show, should she be asked.

"I won't deny that John Sergeant gave me quite a lot of reassurance because if he can galumph around the floor, well I can galumph around the floor," says the 61-year-old.

"I've always thought that cavorting around with those frightfully elegant mortals, I'd look a complete idiot."

"But what I've realised from John's performance is they do let you go at your own pace. If I'm allowed to go at my own pace, it's not such a horrible thought."

Former journalist John Sergeant sent the show's ratings soaring with his fancy footwork last year.
