But their second day in Norway had a slightly more hands on feel and required the couple to get to grips with outdoor survival skills in the Fjords.
Prince Charles was impressive as he made light work of splitting a log in two.
And his wife Camilla was the picture of concentration as she hunched down for a lesson in wood whittling.
The touring royals were making a stop in the rainy city of Bergen, where they met local children who gave them a hero's welcome.
The next stop on their tour is Sweden, and all eyes will be on the country to see if Crown Princess Victoria makes her post-baby debut.
