Screen icon Elizabeth Taylor passed away "peacefully" on Wednesday at the age of 79.
In her lifetime the Hollywood legend appeared in over 50 films and won Oscars for her performances in Butterfield 8 and Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf.
The on-screen beauty also became famous for her eight marriages - two of which were to Welsh actor Richard Burton.
In recent months Elizabeth was admitted to hospital for treatment of symptoms of congestive heart failure.
Her publicist described her illness to CNN as a "condition with which she had struggled for many years."
"Though she had recently suffered a number of complications, her condition had stabilised and it was hoped she would be able to return home. Sadly this was not to be."
