A new portrait of the Queen and her husband in the splendid surroundings of Windsor Castle's Green Drawing Room has been unveiled.
Unlike in the tender photo of them, arms linked and smiling, for their diamond wedding, the royal couple have sombre, thoughtful expressions.
This is perhaps a reflection of the reason for the new image released ahead of the monarch's Diamond Jubilee next year
Majesty and their public roles have been emphasised rather than their personal relationship.
The portrait will go on display in the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh as part of its exhibition The Queen: Art & Image.
German photographer Thomas Struth said: "I selected what you call a love seat... which would make them sit together and yet both in their own aura."
