After giving birth last week, Carla Bruni has taken her little girl, Giulia, home to begin life as the first baby.
France's first lady left hospital on Sunday cradling her longed-for daughter, who was wrapped up tightly against the cool Paris air.
Giulia was immediately introduced to life in the spotlight as she was whisked into a waiting car surrounded by minders and well wishers.
New dad, Nicolas Sarkozy, was tied up dealing with the Euro crisis in Brussels, and wasn’t there to usher his family home.
Mr Sarkozy couldn’t resist chatting about his newborn with Angela Merkel, who presented him with a teddy bear for the little girl.
Then, the excited premier passed the phone to his German counterpart so that she could congratulate Carla.
