One of the UK's most loved soaps is going to up sticks from Manchester to Salford.
Coronation Street will be moving from its current Manchester location to a 7.7 acre site at Trafford Wharf on Salford Quays, as the Manchester set is too small for the soap's desired expansion.
The new set will allow for filming on the fictional Rosamund Street and Viaduct Street, which have been previously mentioned by characters in passing, allowing new families to enter the soap.
The current Manchester set was opened by the Queen in 1982, and is approximately three quarters of the normal size of the average street.
The crew have previously used a wide shot lens tricks to make the street appear to scale. ITV boss John Whiston said: "We will be using the same factory that made the old bricks and I will be making sure that each one is exactly the same as all the others."
