Declan Donnelly has been left devastated by the death of his father.
The TV star's dad Alphonsus Donnelly died in hospital last Friday at the age of 78.
Alphonsus helped Dec launch his career when he encouraged him to audition for kids' programme Byker Grove when he was just 12.
Then he helped nurture his son's showbiz relationship with Ant McPartlin as the pals broke into the big time.
A source said yesterday: "Dec is devastated by his father's death. It has hit him really hard and he is still trying to come to terms with it.
"He and Alphonsus weren't just son and father, they were great friends."
Tributes have been paid to the father-of-seven, who was known affectionately as Foncey to his family and friends.
Family friend Pauline O'Donnell said: "Alphonsus was always very happy and cheerful, a hard-working man with a great sense of humour.
"He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him."
