US singer Chris Brown has been sentenced to 180 days of community labour, following his conviction for the assault of pop star Rihanna.
The 20-year-old R&B star pleaded guilty in June to assaulting the Umbrella singer, his former girlfriend, before the Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles in February.
The judge ruled that Chris - who was fined $2,500 - must attend 52 weeks of domestic violence counselling, and is required to stay at least 100 yards from Rihanna for the next five years.
The hearing, which Chris attended with his mother, had been delayed three weeks ago while the terms of his community service were being decided.
"I have told Rihanna countless times, and I am telling you today, that I am truly sorry and that I wasn't able to handle the situation both differently and better," the singer said in a public apology.
