Greg James to fly to Afghanistan for troop broadcast

Tuesday November 27, 2012

BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James is set to pass up a British Christmas and take over the station's airwaves from Afghanistan.

His daily drivetime programme will be relocating to Camp Bastion in the Helmand Province from December 10, so that the DJ can relay troops' christmas messages to their loved ones with the help of the British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS).

Speaking about his week stint abroad, the DJ said: "I'm really excited to be bringing Radio 1 out to the troops and show them how much we appreciate their hard work.

"I love a challenge and an adventure and this will be a brilliant opportunity to see how BFBS and Camp Bastion works.

"Trust my luck that Daniel Craig went out there last week - it's not the easiest gig to follow James Bond," the DJ joked.

The visit to troops follows on from last year when Tim Westwood broadcast for BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra.
