Syria's ambassador to London has had his invitation to the royal wedding withdrawn in the wake of controversy over his presence on the guest list
The Foreign Office said they had deemed it "unacceptable" that Dr Sami Khiyami attend the nuptials following the killing of pro-democracy demonstrators in recent weeks.
A statement has been issued from the Foreign Office.
"In the light of this week's attacks against civilians by the Syrian security forces, which we have condemned, the Foreign Secretary has decided that the presence of the Syrian Ambassador at the Royal Wedding would be unacceptable and that he should not attend.
"Buckingham Palace shares the view of the Foreign Office that it is not considered appropriate for the Syrian Ambassador to attend the wedding."
A Downing Street spokesperson said David Cameron agrees that "the Foreign Secretary's decision is a good one".
Dr Khiyami has described the situation as "a bit embarrassing".
