The final whistle had been blown and it was down to Prince William to commiserate with the Manchester United players after they lost to Spanish side FC Barcelona in the final of the UEFA Champions League competition in Rome.
Football mad Wills was at the showdown - which ended in a two-nil result for Barcelona - in his official capacity as president of the British Football Association. He greeted the players, including father-to-be Wayne Rooney, and team captain Ryan Giggs after they received their second place medals.
The Prince, who supports Aston Villa FC, was also spotted chatting animatedly to Spain's King Juan Carlos - a fellow football fan - during the match. The royals were seated next to each other in the VIP stand.
