American Pie star Shannon Elizabeth has revealed she is more comfortable in a movie with an environmental message than the gross-out comedies.
Shannon played foreign exchange student Nadia in three of the four smash-hit films.
In her new low-budget indie flick A Green Story she plays Kelly, the real life daughter of Van Vlahakis, who left Greece with 22 dollars and went on to create the Earth Friendly cleaning products company.
Speaking on the red carpet at the premiere, Shannon said the film had a message that was close to her heart.
"I haven't done a role like the American Pie stuff in a while, this is more going along the direction of who I really am, this is much more comfortable for me," she explained.
She added: "I am always trying to be green and environmental, I'm vegan and it's how I live my life and I've been wanting to do a project that is meaningful. When I read the script I knew it was what I wanted to do."
The 39-year-old said playing a living person presented its own challenges: "It was hard because she wanted me to hold her hands the way she held them and we re-wrote the script for things she really said."
The movie also stars Titanic actor Billy Zane, Full Metal Jacket marine Ed O'Ross and A Clockwork Orange star Malcolm McDowell.
