After months of speculation Mariah Carey announced on Thursday that she and husband Nick Cannon are indeed expecting their first child.
"Yes, we are pregnant. This is true” said the 41-year-old singer on the Today show as part of a three-part Access Hollywood interview.
She added, "It's been a long journey. It's been tough because I've been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy."
Opening up to the US TV programme's host about a previous miscarriage two years ago and the pain it caused the couple, Mariah said “It kind of shook us both and took us into a place that was really dark and difficult."
The couple haven't revealed the baby’s due date yet saying only "it’s still early".
Rumors spread of a possible pregnancy after Mariah was seen stepping out in a maternity dress in August, but she told reporters at the time that she is “superstitious” adding “when the time is right, everyone will know”.
It seems the time is now right and husband Nick Cannon was particularly ecstatic, saying "the greatest gift on earth is a child."
